Introduction to metabolic health
Energy and balance
- Life needs energy. Energy comes from the food we eat.
- Food can be immediately used for energy, or it can be stored for later.
- When eating, storing, and using food the body must maintain a state of balance. This balance is known as homeostasis.
Using and storing food
The body needs a steady supply of energy. The food we eat provides this energy.
When we eat food it can be used for energy immediately, or the food can be stored for later.
Whilst the body is burning, storing, and releasing fuel it must maintain a state of balance and harmony. This is known as homeostasis.
When thinking about metabolic health we are interested in how well the body is able to use and store energy whilst remaining in a homeostasis.
